I hate the feeling of my wits dulling. I think part of it is my lack of solitude, my fatigue from working so much and eating less than I used to, and my lack of thinking behaviors. I should actively make an effort to throw those in. Pacing, spinning, picking, biting my nails, etc. All these may be nervous behaviors, but I don’t think they mean I’m nervous so much as they mean I’m thinking, and I’m beginning to think they are more necessary than I realized.

Last night I finished the first song of A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones. I had already watched the first season of the show which portrays a great deal of the book and admirably so at that, but I’m really happy to have read the book. It fleshes out the world and the characters much more thoroughly, and comes together much better for it. George R.R. Martin is a great writer, especially for his choice of genre. I’m going to start the second song A Clash of Kings in a moment. The image above is a portrayal of the final scene in the first song. It’s when Dany awakes the dragons among the ashes of a pyre. In the show they don’t burn off her hair, but I don’t see that as a bad thing.

It really is a great story. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading.

The other day I was stuck in traffic, and everybody else there seemed to be aggro. An ambulance came through and I had to pull over and following that ambulance was a bunch of drivers looking to skip ahead and taking advantage of our having moved to the side for the ambulance. I had to get back in, but everyone was either ignoring or resenting me. This one guy gave me such an angry look and sneered as if I had no right to try to take the place I had only given up for an emergency vehicle. Sooner or later I get back in the lane I needed to be in and about a mile later. Behold! There he was, stuck on the side and trying to get in my lane. No one would stop for him, but I stopped and let him in. Only after shouting, “How do you like my uncompromising good nature, mother fucker!?” out the window.

I’ve noticed a trend of liking characters who use archery(bow, crossbow, or any other variant) in myself. This one for example, Irvine. He’s an apostle who serves Griffith as a member of the second Band of the Hawk in Berserk. He’s an incredible archer. I really like the design of his bow, and his apostle form. A centaur-like creature.

There’s one point in the series where he mentions being a hunter who preferred the isolation of the wild. One who, when hunting, became so focused on his prey that he too felt like a beast, which as one can see manifested into his apostle form(apostles true forms are a physical manifestation of their inner ego after the corruption of becoming an apostle).

There’s a lot of other archer characters that I’ve been fond of too, but this one is the most fascinating to me. Maybe someday I’ll actually invest the time and money into learning archery. I might just do falconry too while I’m at it. xD

I’m very excited for the upcoming Before Watchmen. It’s a series of character histories from the classic graphic novel Watchmen; as well as an additional side story called the Crimson Corsair, which is related to the Tale of the Black Freighter side story that was in the original Watchmen.

Dr. Manhattan(4 issues)

Rorschach(4 issues)

Ozymandias(6 issues)

Nite Owl(4 issues)

Comedian(6 issues)

Silk Spectre(4 issues)

Minutemen(6 issues)

And a one shot epilogue.

I just hope these live up to the original and fulfill their purpose of fleshing out the characters. It’s promising, so far. I’m excited for everyone of them but the Silk Spectre, and that’s mainly because her role in the original was just to motivate other characters. I’ll still check that one out though. Dr. Manhattan, Rorschach, Ozymandias, and the Comedian will all be difficult to write for, but they could easily turn out to be the highlights. This doesn’t mean I doubt the potential for Nite Owl to be great, but that I think it will be the easiest of these to write for. Minutemen is a total wildcard to me. I have no clue what to make of it, but I’m hopeful. I don’t mind the inclusion of the Crimson Corsair, but it’s not a cause for excitement. I will still read it too. Overall, I’m just expecting this to be good for all of the characters, and I hope it leads well enough into Watchmen that I can read them and read Watchmen right after and be totally pleased with it all.
